The Voice Capture
I'm going to paste [3–5] samples of my real writing below — pieces
that sound like me on a good day. Your job is to extract my voice as
a reusable profile.
Analyze the mechanics, not the topics:
- Sentence length and rhythm (short and punchy? long and winding?
where do I break?)
- Punctuation habits (what I use, what I never touch)
- Vocabulary register (formal/casual, jargon tolerance, words I
clearly favor)
- How I open and how I close
- What I do for emphasis, and what I do for humor, if anything
- What is conspicuously ABSENT from my writing — the moves other
people make that I never do
Then produce THE VOICE PROFILE: a set of standing instructions,
written as direct rules ("Write short declarative sentences. Never
open with a question. No exclamation points...") that I can paste
into a project or custom instructions so every future draft starts
in my voice. Include both the do-rules and the never-rules; the
never-rules matter more.
Then prove it: rewrite this generic paragraph in my voice —
[paste any bland paragraph] — so I can grade the profile against
a live example.
Treat the profile as a draft. I'll correct what's off; revise the
profile from my corrections, not from the samples alone.

Why it works Mechanics over topics, because voice lives in rhythm and punctuation, not subject matter. The absent-moves question is the sleeper — what you never do defines your voice more sharply than what you do, and it's the part no one thinks to specify.
